Everything you need before your first visit.
We want your first appointment to feel easy, not overwhelming. Here's what to expect, what to bring, and answers to the questions we hear most.
What to expect, step by step.
We start with a full review of your medical and dental history, a comprehensive oral exam including an oral cancer screening, an intraoral 3D digital scan of your mouth, and any x-rays we need to see the full picture - then we'll walk through what we found together and answer any questions you may have. We pride ourselves on communication and transparency with our patients.
One thing that surprises new patients: we typically don't do a cleaning at the very first visit. We want to properly diagnose your gum health first, so that when we do clean your teeth, it's the right type of cleaning for you.
Items we request before your first visit, if available:
- Any recent x-rays from a previous dentist - we're happy to contact your previous office on your behalf
- A current list of medications
- Your dental insurance information
- Completed new patient forms
Fill out your paperwork before you arrive and we'll get you back to a chair faster. Give us a call and we'll get your New Patient Health History form to you ahead of time, or have it ready at the front desk when you check in.

Dental FAQs.
Dentistry is the prevention and treatment of problems affecting your teeth, gums, mouth, and jaw. It plays a bigger role in your overall health - and your confidence - than most people realize.
A dentist is trained to diagnose, treat, and prevent oral health problems. Both Dr. Martino (DDS) and Dr. Sceppaguercio (DMD) completed the same rigorous dental school training - DDS and DMD are simply two names for the same degree.
Yes. Good habits at home go a long way, but they can't catch everything. Twice-yearly professional cleanings help us catch small issues before they become big - and expensive - ones.
We recommend twice-a-year visits for everyone. Conditions like tooth decay and gum disease often show no symptoms until they've progressed, so regular checkups are the best way to catch them early.
A comprehensive oral exam, an oral cancer screening, digital x-rays to catch anything below the surface, and a full cleaning - plus time with your hygienist to talk through your at-home routine.
As early as six months of age, once the first teeth start to come in.
At least every three months, sooner if you have gum disease, or per the manufacturer's guidance if you use an electric toothbrush.
Watch for red, swollen, or bleeding gums, chronic bad breath, receding gumlines, loose or shifting teeth, or extreme sensitivity. If any of that sounds familiar, give us a call.
